Live social listening & focus group

Brand Bowl 2026

The 2026 Brand Bowl marked the University of Florida’s 8th annual Super Bowl advertising analysis and our first collaboration with USA TODAY’s Ad Meter School Spotlight program. For the first time, UF students were given a dedicated voting code, uofflorida, allowing our results to be integrated directly into USA TODAY’s national Ad Meter research. During the game, 33 CJC students ranked over 80 national advertisements in real time on a 1–5 scale while the Atlas Lab simultaneously monitored live digital discourse using Talkwalker.

Our objective was to combine controlled focus group ratings with organic social listening data to evaluate not just which ads performed well, but why. After the game, we synthesized the data into a formal white paper highlighting our students’ top five and bottom five ranked ads, supported by online sentiment, engagement metrics, and thematic analysis.

I worked specifically on the analysis of Pepsi’s “The Choice,” a top-ranked ad, and Base44’s “It’s App to You,” a bottom-ranked ad. My role involved examining conversation volume, engagement levels, hashtag performance, and sentiment distribution to compare our focus group reactions with broader public response.
